Colonel Mike Harris is a NWC military faculty member who joined the faculty in July 2017.  Colonel Harris is a 1988 graduate of California Polytechnic State University, where he earned a B.S. in Construction Management and was commissioned a second lieutenant (Armor) through the Reserve Officer Training Corps.  Before the NWC assignment, Colonel Harris served 1-year at the U.S. Embassy Iraq, Office of Security Cooperation – Iraq (OSC-I) as the Chief, Chief’s Initiative Group. Prior to OSC-I, Colonel Harris served 4-years assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) as a Senior Military Evaluator for the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) with a focus on modernization of the Abrams Tank and other weapon systems assigned to the heavy brigade combat team; 2-years assigned to Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), serving as Chief, Brigade Modernization and Integration Division, Brigade Modernization Command, Fort Bliss, Texas; 3-years assigned to Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) serving as Director of the Army Center of Excellence (ACOE), Fort Irwin, California; 2-years assigned to NATO Joint Force Command (North) serving as a Combined Joint Plans Officer, J5 Crisis Plans Branch, Naples, Italy; and 8-months assigned to NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR 7) serving as Chief of Plans, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Colonel Harris’ other assignments include Commander, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and other armor assignments while assigned to the 3d & 11th Armored Cavalry Regiments and the 2nd Armored Division. Colonel Harris holds a Master of National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School, and a Master of Military Art and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies.
