Colonel Mark L. Stock joined the National War College faculty in 2017 from the Joint Staff J3 where he served as the Assistant Deputy Director for Joint Operations (JOD Chief). Prior the Joint Staff, he served as the senior military assistant and executive assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) / Commander, US European Command. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he was commissioned as an infantry officer. Colonel Stock has commanded infantry units at every level from Company to Brigade, most recently commanding an Infantry Brigade Combat Team in the 82nd Airborne Division. He has served in a variety operational and staff positions in locations around the world to include Germany, Bosnia, Belgium, Iraq and Afghanistan. His combat and operational tours include deployments as an Infantry Platoon Leader in Operation Desert Shield / Storm, Infantry Company Commander in Bosnia during both Operation Joint Endeavor and Operation Joint Guard, Infantry Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom I, Infantry Battalion Commander during the surge in Operation Iraqi Freedom V, a staff director for Regional Command-East in Afghanistan, and Infantry Brigade Combat Team Commander in Ghazni, Afghanistan. He has also served as a strategist on the Army Staff (G3 War Plans), a battalion & brigade operations trainer at the National Training Center and as the G5 (Director of Plans) for the 82nd Airborne Division. Colonel Stock is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Master of Science Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies (with distinction) from the Naval War College.
