Mr. Peter Neville – DHS

Assistant Professor

For the ten years prior to joining the National Defense University faculty in 2017, Peter Neville served in various roles at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headquarters.  He was a Steering Committee member for the inaugural Quadrennial Homeland Security Review which established the strategic framework for the Department.  He also was on the leadership team for the ensuing Bottom-Up Review.  He led the annual future-years resource decision making process for DHS headquarters and led multiple department-wide management maturation efforts.  Mr. Neville served as Congressional staff for two years with the House Government Reform Committee (2005-2007) where he focused on federalism issues.  He entered federal service in 1992 as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Department of Commerce where he remained through 2004.   While at Commerce, he focused on resource allocation issues for the Office of the Secretary, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Bureau of the Census.  Mr. Neville also has private and non-profit sector experience as a project manager for the Wharton School’s Risk and Decision Processes Center, a nationally ranked business analyst for the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, and supporting war refugees in central Africa.

Mr. Neville holds Master’s degrees in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University and in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.  He has a Bachelor’s in International Affairs from Hampden-Sydney College, and he was a Change Management Fellow at Johns Hopkins University.   He has been married to his wife for 22 years and has three children.  Mr. Neville speaks French and Swedish, is an avid fly fisherman and enjoys woodworking.
