Ott, Mr. Timothy - DOT

Faculty Seminar Leader

Timothy J. (“Tim”) Ott joined the War College faculty in 2019, and serves as U.S. Department of the Treasury Chair.  He is a career member of the Senior Executive Service, and served as Associate Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a Bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  At FinCEN, he most recently led the Liaison/Strategic Operations Division, and previously served as Deputy Associate Director for Intelligence and as Deputy Associate Director for International Programs.  A retired colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps Selected Reserve, Tim served on active duty as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2010, and as Director of Readiness Programs in the Office of the Inspector General of the Marine Corps during 2011.  His previous military duties have included assignments as a Deputy Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Senior Legal Advisor to the Commander, U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, Assistant Staff Judge Advocate to the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, and an operational deployment to Iraq with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 1991. 

Tim holds an LL.M. from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School of the U.S. Army, a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and a B.A. from the University of Mount Union.
