Chair, NSA

Ms. Amy Andrews (SES/DISL) joined the National Defense University (NDU) in 2021 as the NSA Chair with the goal of bringing her expertise and that of other NSA experts to the curriculum and educational activities of NDU.   She is also a professor at the National War College (NWC).   

Prior to this assignment Ms. Andrews served as the first Technical Director for the Directorate established to ensure the effective operation and integration of enterprise-wide human capital management, education, training, security, and logistics. She served as the principal advisor on technical, resource, and business process matters and developed a strategy to transform the underlying human capital technical domain and introduce data fluency to decision making. 

Ms. Andrews has applied her strategic problem-solving expertise at NSA for 34 years. She embraces innovation, professional debate, and looking at problems from a different lens. She has exercised her skills as an effort leader, technical director and subject matter expert in many mission areas to include technology, signals analysis, collection, research and cyber.  

Ms. Andrews is an International Coaching Federation (ICF) certified executive coach who focuses on guiding the growth and evolution of key leadership behaviors in individuals and developing inclusive and innovative teams.  Ms. Andrews has a passion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts and has devoted personal and professional study to understanding the barriers for equitable advancement and retention within critical STEM areas that are imperative in government roles.  She is focused on learning and educating how inclusive and equitable behaviors can create diverse teams with expansive ideas for solving hard problems. 

Ms. Andrews has received numerous awards and recognition including the Exceptional Civilian Service Award (ECSA).  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Math from Central Michigan University and Master of Science in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.  She has also completed certificates in Senior Executives in National and International Security, Comprehensive Evidence Based Coaching, and Leadership Decision Making.
