Mr. Glenn Baek – Treasury Dept.

Mr. Glenn Baek is the National War College Treasury Chair and an Assistant Professor of National Security Strategy. Prior to joining the faculty in June 2022, he served as the sole Treasury Advisor/Liaison Officer to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (2017-2021), Hawaii, advising the Command on the application of Treasury’s financial tools and authorities in support of the Commander’s priorities in the AOR, including countering PRC malign influence, DPRK proliferation activities, and transnational criminal organizations. He also led joint Treasury, DOD, and federal law enforcement programs designed to disrupt threat networks in the Asia-Pacific region through investigative and analytical exchanges leading to sanctions, seizures, or indictments.

During his decade-plus tenure at Treasury’s Office of Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Baek has covered a broad range of issues, including enforcement of anti-money laundering standards, financial sanctions, and cybercrimes. From 2001 to 2008, he was an analyst in the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, specializing in political and military issues on the Korean Peninsula. As part his professional development, Baek served as a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow (2012-2013), and as a Brookings LEGIS Fellow (2007) with the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade. He began his professional career as a Research Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies after receiving MA in International Relations from American University and BA in History from SUNY Stony Brook.
