Col Cary Mittelmark – USAF

Military Faculty, U.S. Air Force

Colonel Cary Mittelmark joined the NWC as military faculty in June 2022. He recently served as Chief, Force Assessments Branch for the Joint Staff Force Structure, Resources and Assessment Directorate (J-8) at the Pentagon.  Colonel Mittelmark received his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Portland in 2001 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He holds a Master of International Public Policy with Distinction from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (2014) and a Master of Strategic Security Studies from the College of International Security Affairs (2020), where he was a distinguished graduate.  Colonel Mittelmark is a Senior Pilot with over 2500 flying hours and numerous overseas contingency deployments.  He commanded the 27th Expeditionary Special Operations Group in Stuttgart, Germany following his command of the 524th Special Operations Squadron at Duke Field, Florida.  Colonel Mittelmark’s additional staff assignments include Chief, Counterterrorism Strategy for the Joint Staff Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5) at the Pentagon.
