Cumming, Mr. Sean - NGA

Chair, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

Mr. Sean Cumming joined the National War College in June 2022 as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency faculty chair, bringing his knowledge and experience, and that of other geospatial experts, to the college’s curriculum and educational activities. Over the course of his 30-plus-year career, Mr. Cumming has served in various senior analytical and leadership positions at NGA and the IC. Most recently, he was the lead NGA representative to the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Prior roles included supporting numerous high current interest national security issues, as well as military planning and operations in multiple combatant commands.

Mr. Cumming received the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award (2022) and the Department of Defense Outstanding Employee with a Disability Award in 2011. He has Master of Science degrees in National Security Strategy from the National War College (Class of 2014) and Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College (Class of 2000). He also holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and History from the University of California, San Diego. Originally from California, Mr. Cumming is married to Ann Marie Cumming, who is senior vice president of Communications at the National Association of Broadcasters. They have two adult sons.
