Mr. Garrett Duarte has served in a variety of national security, intelligence, and legal assignments across the federal government, driving mission both in the foreign field and from Washington. Most significantly, Mr. Duarte served as the project lead for a campaign directed at improving the operating conditions for U.S. military forces actively engaged in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations. In his attorney role, Mr. Duarte has counselled clients regarding the implications of cyber operations and the proper handling and protection of bulk data and U.S. person information. Before his current service Mr. Duarte served as an attorney in the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, where he led teams investigating mergers in the software and technology sectors. Mr. Duarte also practiced antitrust law in the private sector at the law firms of Jones Day and Collier Shannon. Mr. Duarte was commissioned as an armor officer in the U.S. Army Reserves and served as an anti-tank platoon leader in the Michigan National Guard. After the 9/11 attacks, Mr. Duarte served on active duty at Third Army Headquarters (Forward) at Camp Doha, Kuwait, with service throughout the Middle East. Mr. Duarte received a B.A. in International Relations from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Mr. Duarte is a distinguished graduate of the National War College, where his independent research focused on countering the Russian hybrid threat to NATO cohesion.
