Matthew C. Frankel – CIA

Mr. Matt Frankel has had a distinguished career in the intelligence community since joining the Central Intelligence Agency in 1996. A specialist in studying insurgencies and a member of the Senior Analytic Service since 2008, Matt has provided key analytic insights to senior policymakers and the US military on conflicts in the Middle East and Latin America. Matt also spent three years on the National Intelligence Council covering the Middle East after the Arab Spring as well as one year as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Before joining the NWC faculty in 2025, Matt was an instructor teaching analytic tradecraft to new analysts at the Agency’s Sherman Kent School. He has also guest lectured at both Princeton University and the University of Michigan. 

Matt holds a BA in international relations from Tufts University and a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School.
