Colonel Stoney Portis is an Army officer whose professional experience and academic work focus on strategy, national security, and civil-military relations.
His previous assignments include Director for Political-Military Affairs on the National Security Council; Strategic Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army; Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy; Commander of 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment; and deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Indo-Pacific, and Europe.
Colonel Portis is a graduate of the National War College. He holds a Ph.D. from Duke University, a Master of Arts from Dartmouth College, a Master of Military Art and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy.
His teaching and research interests include international relations, national security strategy, cyber strategy, and the influence of narrative and history on strategy.
