Colonel Troy Perry 

joined the National War College faculty in 2014 from the Office of the Secretary of Defense where he served as the senior military assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness and as the Deputy Director for Strategy and Policy to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. He is a 1989 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned as an armor officer. He has served in a variety of command and staff positions in locations around the world to include Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq. His combat tours include as a battalion and brigade operations officer in the 4th Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and as a combined arms battalion commander in the 3rd Infantry Division in Baghdad during the surge in Operation Iraqi Freedom V. In previous assignments he served as an Assistant Professor of American Politics at the U.S. Military Academy and as the aide-de-camp and assistant executive officer to the Commanding General of the Training and Doctrine Command. He also served as a strategic planner in the Executive Strategy Group in the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army. 

Colonel Perry is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government (1999) and a Master of Science Degree in National Security Studies (with distinction) from the National War College (2011). His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Combat Action Badge. He is married to the former Paula Lindelof and has two children, Bryan and Joelle.
